Postcards for Pakistan: Stamping Out Injustice, One Letter at a Time

GHRD’s “Postcards for Pakistan: Stamping out injustice, one letter at a time” campaign took place from June 2013 until June 2014. As part of the campaign, the documentary, “Pakistan: A Defining Moment”, showing the plight of minorities in Pakistan, on a tour among universities in The Netherlands. After each screening event and lecture, the attendees were invited to write to the UN Special Rapporteur on Religious Freedom or Belief, on our specially designed postcards. Since June 2013, GHRD organized 12 screening events and lectures. We sent more than 100 postcards written by the attendees to UN Special Rapporteur on religious freedom belief, asking for the betterment of minorities’ human rights situation in Pakistan. GHRD successfully involved young people in human rights activism and inspire them to take action about the human rights issues in Pakistan. The violations against minorities in Pakistan reached a wider audience on international level and gained the attention it deserved.

The postcard campaign and lectures, coordinated by Naz Tuncay, Human Rights Officer, involved universities in The Netherlands and, volunteer and student groups. We would like to thank everyone, International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), De Haagse Hogeschool, Urios Study Association for International and European Law, Amnesty Volunteers Amsterdam, Avans Hogeschool, Southern Utah University and Zuyd Hogeschool who contributed to our campaign and made an initial step towards justice.
