Bangladeshi journalist and human rights defender Jahangir Alam Akash, currently in exile in Europe, has recently published his new book entitled ‘Pain’ discussing Bangladesh history, culture and human rights.

Youth In action – ‘A Home Called Europe’

GHRDs project “A Home Called Europe” was approved by the Dutch National Agency as part of the EU Youth in Action Programme. The project will focus on issues relating to immigration, diversity and minorities in Europe and will take place from 19th to 28th March 2011 in The Hague. Read more... 

Upcoming events International Women’s Day 2011

To honour International Women’s Day 2011 GHRD is hosting an event ‘Women Heroes: Stories from South Asia’ on the 7th of March, which will include case stories of inspiring women from South Asia and also a screening of the documentary ‘SOLD – A child trafficked’. GHRD presents its 2010 year report on human rights in Bangladesh during press conference in DHAKA

GHRD’s local partners presented its 2010 year report on human rights during a press conference held in Dhaka on the 28th of February 2011 at the Reporters Unity Press Club. GHRD presents at the World Social Forum

In February, GHRD took part in the World Social Forum in Dakar, Senegal, an annual event with over 10,000 people from around the world in attendance. GHRD successfully conducted a three hour panel presenting our activities and the documentary SOLD – A child trafficked to an audience of more than 100 people. Read more...  

GHRD presents its report on Bhutanese resettlement to European authorities

On the 21st of January, GHRD presented its main findings and recommendations from a one year research project on Bhutanese resettlement in the Netherlands to the Dutch and European authorities. The research was conducted in collaboration with the Dutch Council for refugees and resulted in the report From Himalayas to the Lowlands – in search of peace and happiness.

GHRD has successfully supported Freedom through football - a project to empower young female victims of violence, trafficking and poverty between 13-17 years in Murshidabad, India. Read more... 

Presentation at the Foundation for Refugee Students

GHRD has successfully supported the project rehabilitation for survivors - a project aimed at rehabilitating female survivors of sexual exploitation or forced labour in Murshidabad, India. The project goal is to develop economic empowerment programs for disadvantaged girls to earn a sustained livelihood. The project has rehabilitated 50 survivors to date. Read more...
