In March and April human rights issues for minorities, women and human rights defenders in Bangladesh and Pakistan were top priority on the agenda for discussions with the Dutch Foreign ministry and Danish and Swedish embassies. GHRD also celebrated international women’s day and gave human rights lectures and brought the sold documentary to Sweden, Italy and the Netherlands.

 

Publications

Pakistan human rights report 2010-2011

Key issues include: the persistence of persecution of minorities for the ‘so-called’ crime of blasphemy and for those that oppose the blasphemy laws, discrimination and attacks against minority communities with little or no legal investigation, institutional discrimination against women under the guise of Sharia law, and human rights violations against minorities in the Azad Kashmir region.

International women’s day: women heroes

GHRD dedicated international women’s day to ‘women heroes’ in South Asia. Attendees of the intimate event were presented with various cases from strong women in South Asia, and the documentary sold was screened. Read more...

GHRD creates new partnership with Human Rights Focus Pakistan

GHRD hosts the youth in action programme “Den Haag – A home called Europe”

GHRD proudly hosted the Youth in Action programme “Den Haag - A Home Called Europe”, which ran from the 19th to the 28th of March 2011. The youth exchange aimed to raise awareness about immigration and different cultures among young Europeans. Read more...

 

 

GHRD lectures at the human rights programme, Lund University

On the 14th March, GHRD human rights officer Jenny Lundstrom held a lecture on GHRD’s human rights activities in South Asia for students of the programme of human rights studies at Lund University in Sweden. Read more...

The “SOLD campaign”

In April, GHRD representatives held a discussion on human rights in South Asia and screened the documentary SOLD – A Child Trafficked in Venice and Turin to students at the Master of Law, UNICRI – United Nations interregional crime and justice research institute in order to raise awareness about human trafficking.

GHRD presents on migration issues at Gymnasium Sorhgvliet

On April 4 and 5, GHRD presented human rights issues at the Gymnasium Sorghvliet to 100 students aged between 13 to 15 years old. Four representatives from migrant organizations shared their experiences as migrants in the Netherlands. Read more...

Presentation at the Foundation for Refugee Students

GHRD presented its key findings of the research “From the Himalayas to the Lowlands” to a group of Bhutanese youth during a meeting on higher education organised by the Foundation for Refugee Students (UAF) in Utrecht on the 5th of March.
