The past few months have been packed with GHRD action! Key highlights include celebration of International Day of Peace in Bangladesh and The Netherlands, a press conference held by GHRD's local partners in Pakistan and interviews with members of Human Rights Alliance Bangladesh (HRAB): Boys of Bangladesh on LGBT rights and Kapeeng Foundation on the situation of indigenous peoples in Bangladesh.

Fight Discrimination- Equal Rights for All

In the past year, Village Development Foundation (VDF), GHRD’s partner organisation from Nepal, has taken tremendous steps to achieve inequality and justice in two vulnerable districts of Nepal. The goal of “Fight Discrimination, Equal Rights for All” was to address the discriminatory problems faced by the Dalit, economically underprivileged people, women and children; issues that are also apparent in Millennium Development Goals. Advocacy for Peacebuilding in Bangladesh

Celebrating International Day of Peace in the City of Peace and Justice

GHRD took part in the event “Exploring Peace and Justice in The Hague”, which was one of the various celebrations that occurred during the Just Peace Weekend, from 19th to 21st September. Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) based in The Hague, engaged in ignite talks during which each organization gave 3 minute presentations to highlight their work, mission and vision. Read more...

GHRD discussed the Bangladeshi Government's disappointing stance on LGBT rights and right to comprehensive sexual education with  Boys of Bangladesh, largest network of self-identified Bangladeshi gay men, and talked about future steps to be taken for substantial change in attitudes towards LGBT people. Read more...

Postcards for Pakistan: Stamping Out Injustice, One Letter at a Time

GHRD organized 12 screening events of “Pakistan: A Defining Moment” in collaboration with various universities, students groups and volunteer groups. We sent more than 100 postcards written by the attendees to UN Special Rapporteur on religious freedom belief, asking for the betterment of minorities’ human rights situation in Pakistan. Shrinking space for Non-governmental Organisations: Bangladesh and its Foreign Donations (Voluntary Activities) Regulation Act

The Government of Bangladesh has proposed a new NGO law titled “The Foreign Donations (Voluntary Activities) Regulation Act 2014” (FDRA), facilitates arbitrary government power over NGOs, restricting their rights to engage in voluntary activities and potentially curtailing critical work on the protection and promotion of human rights and people's welfare.
