Pakistani Hindu Girls: Forcibly Converted to Islam following Abduction

A 10-year-old child, Chandri Kolhi, was abducted when she was playing right outside her home, from Nasirabad. She has already been married to one Allahdino and it is unhopeful that she will be recovered, despite her parents making an impassioned appeal.

Pathani Bheel was abducted from Shahadpur a few months back. Now, a Sindhi local newspaper has reported that she has been converted to Islam while Najoo Kolhi has also been converted to Islam by Sufi Pir Ayub Jan Sarhandi from Tando Ghulam Ali.

20-year old Parwati Kolhi from Umerkot, is another victim of the forced conversion gang led by Sufi Pir Ayub Jan Sarhandi. After being forcibly converted to Islam she was married to Rasool Bux by the Sufi Pir.

These cases, only a few in the midst of an ongoing epidemic, are evidence of the widespread and heart-breaking effects of these practices.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of proper reporting and lack of documentation, many cases do not come to light. Many Pakistani Hindus continue to be forced to migrate elsewhere. Due to this persecution, the Indian government has granted citizenship for the persecuted minority. Approximately 36,000 Pakistani Hindus were granted these visas between 2011 and 2018, although there is no official data about the size of the population in total, according to a spokesperson for India’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The Indian government has also said that it has raised the persecution of Pakistani Hindus at international forums. But due to the involvement of police forces in Pakistan in these conversion practices, the possibility of justice remains fleeting.

In the cases where some Pakistani Hindu girls have managed to return, the Sufi Pirs viewed it as a personal slight, leading to murders and mob violence. Thus, in this quagmire, Pakistani Hindu girls continue to suffer from forced conversion and sexual harassment which is allowed to flourish by the state of Pakistan.
