UN Youth Australia Student Visit

On Wednesday 22nd January, Global Human Rights Defence (GHRD) welcomed students from the United Nations Youth Australia delegation to our head office in The Hague for an educational seminar.

The students are undertaking a study tour of Europe to meet with institutions, government representatives, NGOs and media organisations to learn about the biggest challenges facing Europe and the work of individuals who grapple with these challenges on a daily basis.

The students were given an insight into our work by the Human Rights team here at GHRD, providing them with a detailed overview of the countries we operate in and how we carry out this work. We informed them about the importance of our work on the ground with our partners and entered into a discussion with the students about how they feel regarding human rights work operating at this level and some of the biggest issues facing our work.

We then outlined some of our upcoming campaigns and issues we shall focus on with the group. This discussion centred on the topic of terrorism, debating with the students about the approaches taken by States in tackling this issue and the implications of the human rights of minorities within this context.

The event with the students from all parts of Australia was very informative for both sides and we would like to thank them for coming to visit us.

If you would be interested in one of these educational seminars with our team at GHRD please get in contact with info@ghrd.org.
