Human trafficking remains one of the gravest human rights violations of our time and represents a modern form of slavery. While slavery in the past was often protected and institutionalized by states and empires, today these crimes continue through criminal networks, corruption, conflict, poverty, and weak international enforcement.
Across the world, millions of people continue to suffer through forced labor, child soldier recruitment, sexual exploitation, forced marriage, organ trafficking, domestic slavery, debt bondage, and the exploitation of migrants and refugees. Behind every statistic is a human being whose dignity, freedom, and future have been stolen.
As Chairman of Global Human Rights Defence (GHRD), I strongly believe that the international community must take stronger action against all forms of human trafficking and modern slavery. Governments, international institutions, law enforcement agencies, and civil society organizations must work together to protect victims, prosecute traffickers, and prevent exploitation.
United Nations and international human rights bodies recognize human trafficking as a severe violation of human rights and, when systematic or widespread, a crime against humanity.
Human dignity is not negotiable. Silence and inaction only strengthen the networks of exploitation. Together, we must continue the fight for freedom, justice, and the protection of every human life.
