Two exhibitions were held today at the United Nations in Geneva to showcase the human rights situation in Sindh and Balochistan. The events, organized by partners of Global Human Rights Defence (GHRD), were accompanied by a public demonstration where members of the Baloch and Sindhi communities gathered to advocate for their fundamental rights.
The Sindhi exhibition focused on documented reports of systemic violations. The displays provided evidence regarding the treatment of religious minorities, civil society activists, and women and girls. A significant portion of the exhibition was dedicated to the safety of journalists, who speakers described as a primary target for repression. The materials revealed the impact of “transnational repression,” sharing the stories of victims who have faced harassment or violence even after leaving their home regions.
During the manifestation, representatives from the Sindhi community reaffirmed their call for national self-determination. They noted that this is a fundamental right established by the UN Charter. Speakers argued that the Sindhi people should have the right to decide their own political and economic future.
The Baloch community also used the exhibition to highlight the ongoing issue of enforced disappearances. Their displays featured photographs and case studies of individuals who have gone missing. During the demonstration, community members spoke about the need for international attention to protect their cultural identity and land.
Together, the exhibitions aimed to bring visibility to these cases within the halls of the UN. The organizers concluded that without freedom of expression and the protection of vulnerable groups, there can be no lasting stability or justice for these communities.
