Last summer, the UK experienced episodes of riots after the fatal stabbing of three young girls in Southport. Misinformation quickly circulated, falsely implicating a Muslim asylum seeker in the crime (Marchant, 2025). Earlier this year, in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, following allegations that two Romanian teenagers had sexually assaulted a girl, a far-right mob targeted ethnic minorities (Telford & Page, 2025).
